Annual practice duration is 540 minutes, combining the two source-stated 270-minute exam days. The source gives no point values. Each problem uses 1 editorial point for import compatibility; this is not an official scoring scale.
A garden is a $2024\times2024$ grid of unit squares. A gardener places flowerpots subject to all three conditions:
1. Every pot contains exactly one of three species: chrysanthemum, rose, or orchid.
2. Each $1\times1$ square contains at most one pot.
3. For every pot, the number of pots of a different species in its row plus the number of pots of a different species in its column is $3$.
What is the largest possible number of pots if all three species must be present?

Place $k$ marbles in the cells of a $2024\times2024$ square board so that each cell contains at most one marble and no two marbles occupy adjacent cells. Two cells are adjacent if they share a side.
(a) For $k=2024$, give such a placement in which moving any marble to any adjacent cell produces a placement no longer satisfying both conditions.
(b) Find the largest $k$ such that, for every placement satisfying the two conditions, some marble can be moved to an adjacent cell so that no two marbles are adjacent in the new placement.
