Question 40

Each of hundred dots in a $10 \times 10$ grid is coloured red or blue. A dot is called *corner-dot* if it is in the corner of the grid. A dot is called *edge-dot* if it is at the end of some row or column, but it is not a corner-dot. Two dots are *neighbouring* if they are in the same row or column, and there are no other points between them.

Each pair of neighbouring dots is connected with a red, blue or green segment, so that every red segment connects two red dots, every blue segment connects two blue dots, and every green segment connects one red and one blue dot.

There are exactly $52$ red dots, $16$ of them are edge-dots, and two of them are corner-dots. The total number of green segments is $98$. Determine the number of blue segments. (Canada 2001)
