Question 9

Ten whole apples are shared equally. (a) English-source version: share them among three children. How many whole apples does each child get, and how many are left over? (b) Vietnamese-source version: share them among five friends. How many apples does each friend get? Also give the remainder. Enter four numbers in the order “three-child amount, three-child remainder; five-person amount, five-person remainder”, using commas within pairs and a semicolon between them. The original options are A:3, B:2, C:4, D:5, E:None of the above; these are single per-person amounts, not complete pairs.

The source languages disagree: its English text says three children and asks for both the per-child amount and the remainder; its Vietnamese text says five friends and asks only for the per-person amount. Solve both versions below. For the five-person version, also state the remainder as an added comparison check.
