1+2+1=4

1+2+3+2+1=9

1+2+3+4+3+2+1=16

1+2+3+4+5+4+3+2+1=25

...

Count the first displayed equation as row 1, and continue its increasing-then-decreasing pattern.

Question 3

Alan has an old grandfather clock that runs slow. Every day at 9:00 AM it shows 8:30 AM, so he resets it. One day Alan went on a “4-day vacation”. He left at 9:00 AM on Monday after resetting the clock. When he returned at 9:00 PM on Thursday, what time did the clock show?

Assume the clock loses time at a constant rate. Use the exact departure and return times, rather than treating “4-day vacation” as four complete 24-hour days. Enter H:MM AM/PM or 24-hour HH:MM, without a day name.

Automatic short-text checking is limited to listed spellings/formats, not general meaning. An unsupported/null result means ungraded and needs manual checking; it is not evidence that an answer is wrong.

Question 5

Sanjana wants to put 64 apples into some fruit bowls. Each bowl can contain at most 6 apples. What is the minimum possible number of bowls that contain the same number of apples?

Interpret “minimum possible” as follows: group nonempty bowls by their number of apples, and make the largest such group as small as possible. All 64 apples must be placed, with whole apples in each bowl. The original wording is ambiguous; it does not ask for the minimum total number of bowls.

Question 6
