EXPERIMENT 1

EGG TWIST

Objective: You are tasked to explain the concept behind determining if an egg is raw or cooked without breaking the shell.

Materials: Two plates, one hard-boiled egg (shelled), one raw egg, marker pen

Procedure:

(1) Mark each egg so that you know which is cooked and which is raw.

(2) Put the eggs on the two separate plates and start spinning them at the same time. Describe what happened.

(3) Put the raw egg on a plate and spin it. Touch it with your finger to stop it from spinning. Quickly remove your finger from the egg.

(4) Put the hard-boiled egg on a plate and make it spin. Stop it with your finger. Take your finger away quickly.

(5) Record your observation and explanation in Table 1 and answer the questions provided.

| | Observation | Explanation |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Procedure 2 (both egg) | ________________ | ________________ |
| Procedure 3 (raw egg) | ________________ | ________________ |
| Procedure 4 (hard-boiled egg) | ________________ | ________________ |

EXPERIMENT 1 — EGG TWIST

Hypothesis: _________________________________________________ [ __/1]

Table 1. ____________________________________________________ [ __/1]

| | Observation | Explanation |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Procedure 2 (both egg) | ________________ [ __/1] | ________________ [ __/2] |
| Procedure 3 (raw egg) | ________________ [ __/1] | ________________ [ __/2] |
| Procedure 4 (hard-boiled egg) | ________________ [ __/1] | ________________ [ __/2] |

Without using any additional materials, suggest an alternative way of determining if an egg is cooked or raw without cracking it. [ __/2]

________________________________________________________________

Conclusion [ __/2]

________________________________________________________________

Editorial source note: The printed word “shelled” normally means that the shell has been removed; this conflicts with the objective “without breaking the shell.” The original wording is retained. For the non-destructive comparison described here, use a cooled, hard-boiled egg with its shell intact, and record that clarification. The answer-sheet prompts above are part of the task, even where they are absent from the question page.

Question 2

EXPERIMENT 2

DENSITY OF THE EGG

Objective: Determine if an egg is raw or cooked by comparing their density (without breaking the shell).

Procedure: You are required to plan and carry out an experiment to attain the objective by observing and explaining what happened in the experiment. You are NOT REQUIRED to use all the materials listed.

You are to provide the following information in your answer sheet:

- Hypothesis
- Materials
- Procedures
- Observation. Draw, discuss, and label your observations.

Guide Questions:

- How does your chosen materials contribute to comparing the density of the eggs?
- Will your observations be the same when you use other materials?

- Conclusion. Write what happened and what the results might mean.
- Modifications. List down materials that you are going modify in your next experiment to get better results.

EXPERIMENT 2 — DENSITY OF EGG

Hypothesis: _________________________________________________ [ __/1]

Materials: __________________________________________________ [ __/2]

Procedures: _________________________________________________ [ __/3]

Observation(s): Draw and label in the blank space below. [ __/3]

Discussion: __________________________________________________

Conclusion: __________________________________________________ [ __/3]

Modifications: ________________________________________________ [ __/3]

Answer-sheet page 3 of 3 is blank apart from its heading and footer and provides additional working space.

Editorial source note: Although the source refers to “all the materials listed,” no Experiment 2 materials list appears anywhere in the supplied six-page PDF. The proposed materials in the solution are editorial possibilities, subject to availability; they must not be mistaken for the missing official list. Density by itself need not uniquely identify whether an egg is cooked. Report evidence and uncertainty rather than assuming a universal raw/cooked density ordering.
